Love
I once gave my heart away.
Without even a fleeting thought.
I put it into another's care
Time came and it was discouragingly handed back to me.
I with tears in my eyes received it.
I took it back, holding the pieces together.
Putting it back together like a puzzle I had not taken apart,
Not sure how it fit back together.
As it began to take shape,
I found pieces missing,
Holes left from laceration,
Deep stabbings
I once gave my heart away
Dare I ever do it again?
I once gave my heart away,
This time to a King, a Doctor, a Surgeon.
He restored the sundered,
I found He had new pieces to my unfinished puzzle.
This time the wounds were His.
The live, mine.
From Him, without warrant
He poured His life
He stopped His heart that mine might beat again.
And I received my new heart back,
Twice as large,
For it beat the blood of
The Eternal King.
