Theory
extension: overflow of love and revealing of holiness.
God is love. He desires to share His love in its fullest extent. This
is the source of creation, redemption and judgment. The wholeness and
complete revelation of God could not have been known otherwise.
Argument from Holiness:
Judgment's source is God's holiness but if there were no creation, there
would be no judgment for there would be nothing to judge. Judgment was
a required action in creation, but not a motivation because created beings
were meant to walk with God. Because beings fell, judgment existed. The
holiness of God is only expressed fully in judgment. Before judgment,
God was holy, but His holiness was not known.
Ultimate conclusion:
Creation exists because God desired to reveal Himself fully.
God created with the foreknowledge that creation would fall because He
saw that the good of the revealing of His true character and the consequences
thereof would be better than His remaining unrevealed. He could have stopped
after creating angels because Lucifer would fall and be judged and therefore
His holiness would be revealed. He could have at that point revealed the
rest of His character to angels by showing them grace, however, He chose
to use man to reveal His grace. Why? Perhaps it has something to do with
the angels' beings, that they are eternal and once they made a choice
for Him or against Him its permanent. The postulation will continue. What
do you think?
