External Sources Many people claim that they can ignore the Bible because its one voice's
opinion and that there is little to no real support outside of itself
to prove it's validity. They simply don't know what they're talking about
and here's my evidence. The fact is, there are dozens of outside sources.
Lets start with Josephus the famous historian from Jesus' era. Josephus
recorded many things among which that Jesus was called the Christ, James
was His brother, and that the Sanhedrin really didn't like him at all.
He also called Jesus a wise man who was very virtuous. But most importantly
he recorded that Pilate crucified Jesus but also that it was widely claimed
that He had risen three days later. He also said that Jesus might be the
Messiah. Then there's Tacitus, yet another historian. He recorded that
Pilate killed Jesus under the rule of Tiberius Caesar and that 30 years
later there were multitudes of followers in Rome. He also recorded that
the sacraments (communion) were being practiced. Thirdly he wondered why
there would be such an incredible following of a dead man who was killed
in the most gruesome way. That's abnormal for people. Thirdly, there is
Talmud. He wrote a commentary on the Old Testament, but also he recorded
that Jesus was crucified on the eve of the Passover and also called Jesus
a sorcerer (this meaning that he could not deny Jesus miracles). Fourthly,
Lucian was a second century Greek writer. He wrote that Christians worshipped
the crucified Jesus and recorded some of the scriptures and teachings
that were going around such as Matthew 27. Finally, I wish to reference
Phelgon. He recorded that during the second Olympics there was an eclipse
that showed stars at the 6th hour and also that there was an earthquake.
Jesus died at the 6th hour and the gospels claim that there was an eclipse
and an earthquake. |
